my little shop: bergen house
It’s now been almost seven months since I opened my online shop. Between the massive learning curve that ensued and making some wonderful online friends along the way (#thriftbreak), I’ve discovered this will be a life-long passion of mine. The listings do take time and I’ve visited our local post office more than I ever dreamed, but until I can secure that Airstream to sell from...

did not want to get out of our comfy hotel bed * breakfast next to the 4th floor balcony and near a warm fire * viewing all the filming locations of ‘the help’ around greenwood (favorite = skeeters farm house) * lunch at delta bistro where L spilled his po-boy everywhere * viewing the viking headquarters * freezing walking around downtown * nice drive back to bham with several stops...

launched: bergen house
So, two days ago I finally started the Etsy shop I’ve been thinking about for far too long. I am one happy girl that it now exists. My shop is Bergen House and is focused around original, modern art prints that I created and vintage finds I’ve picked up along the way. Bergen means ‘to rescue’ or ‘salvage’ in Dutch.

ahh, hello again
I did say hiatus…and I meant it :) I’ve been back to the states about 2+ weeks or something now. Kind of rough being home, I must admit. I could get used to Paris or Amsterdam for a few years. Anyway, it’s been busy but I’m trying to do the very African and mostly European thing and slow down. I was fascinated how relaxed they are, how carefree their lifestyle is and how...

mini break
Sitting in my hotel room in Nairobi…what a long way to get here but it’s great to finally be here. After this trip I’m meeting L for a week in Amsterdam - so this is my little note that I’m going to be on a little break from tumblring :) I look forward to posting some updates and photos when I get home.
Happy Memorial Day!

that storm
I don’t even know how to describe it except for we were very lucky. We’re fine, our house is fine, those we know are fine. But so many other are not. I couldn’t help but think about people who no longer had their own home to sleep in, they lost their most important memories, they knew or didn’t yet know they lost someone important to them. Peoples lives were forever...
{ last } weekend highlight: bday on the bayou
We had such a fun, relaxing time celebrating Dad’s 65th birthday. I can’t believe it’s been 5 years since I’ve been with him, so it meant everything to me that I could be there. While I miss aspects of the West Coast…it’s these moments with family that make our move back so worth it.

back to reality
Slowly getting back into the swing of things after a long weekend at the beach with some wonderful friends celebrating Wendy’s wedding. It was a beautiful, warm weekend at Emma’s Bay House, the glorious B&B where the wedding was held.
Being thrown back into reality this week is an understatement…and I’ll just leave it at that. Ahhh, life.

a red bull kind of day * some morning tv news while starting work * sunny, sunny and sunny * lunch run to pier 1 (because that’s a release for me), which led to some lovely wooden salt & pepper shakers * first mortgage payment, check * bbq takeout (demetri’s) with landon’s parents * an almost target run for patio furniture * searching for the roach (ugh) after landon promised...

well that was fun
I’ve been waiting for the time to start my own board @pinterest. Well, tonight was the night - with a chick flick on in the background, US Weekly and Cosmo by my side and all the Bravo recordings watched. I love this quick tool, here’s my start: http://pinterest.com/chelseahowell/of-interest/
weekend highlight(s)
watching landon venture into our crawl space late friday night to repair our laundry vent (he was struggling, i couldn’t stop laughing) * mom being able to drive to our house, spend the day and night with us on sat * sat afternoon on the porch with some chilled white wine and bread from continental bakery * sunday searching for the perfect patio furniture (still searching) * watching more of...
all moved in
…and it’s hard to believe it’ll be the last time for a long time. Unpacking, knowing that you don’t have to keep the box to pack with again is liberating. We’re loving our little place and still can’t believe it’s ours. There’s plenty we want to do to enhance it but we’re taking it one Home Depot run at time.

seattle days
I got here on a sunny Saturday and had a most wonderful dinner with Amy at Le Pichet in the city. Sunday was spent relaxing at Jessica’s with Robyn, watching and holding precious baby Bennett. So good to be back in the office and working with everyone, even though it’s a ridiculously busy week. I’ve also made friends with a delightful colleague who is staying at my same hotel...

late, late nights
It’s an intense work week around here. Have spent way too many hours in coffee shops (not the ‘good’ kind) and all of my wardrobe (remember all 5 tops, 2 jeans, etc that I’m rotating while our stuff is in storage?) is infused with the not-so-subtle scent. However, it’s a productive week so far. L is in Sacramento for a couple days and bright and early this Saturday...
this day
wonderful sleep in * chex (with banana) cereal * beautiful morning with still some snow covered ground * battled overcrowded parking lot for lunch * relaxing and working in a wonderful little coffee shop feeling the warmth of the sun * drinking a well made latte * about to tackle some serious work * possibly ‘black swan’ tonight * happy saturday
living simply
I am getting more and more anxious to rid my life of the unnecessary. I love and envy the way the minimalistic live. I do desire warmth and character in my home but I temptingly imagine what life would be like with only the well-designed basics.
this day (at home)
i think it was early this morning that we finally turned off bravo * woke up surprisingly not freezing (fur coat possibly) * mom’s chocolate truffle coffee * beautiful, sunny morning * caught on up on martha stewart living, house beautiful and coastal living mags * another busy work day * quick lunch with mom over some famous ward’s * afternoon rain * maybe just a bit more...
home
After the weekend festivities, I decided to come work from home for a few days. Is there anything better than the comfort of your own bed in your parents house? For me, no there’s really not. Even though I have to sleep with roughly four layers on and fur coat (life with my Dad and his love for cold air), I love it.
weekend highlight: nola
What a fun bachelorette weekend in New Orleans celebrating with the bride-to-be Wendy, my college roommate. Even though our awesome house was most definitely in the ghetto, we dined well (eat, Jacques-Imo’s) and partied well (Bourbon). It was great to catch up, laugh with at ‘Angel’ and get some dancing out of our system.

why i blog
…because I’m awful at keeping a journal and L is the best-est at it and it drives me crazy. It’s my attempt to share some current thoughts and memories. Another honest reason? I’d love for my {future} kids to get a glimpse into knowing me now. It’s also a bit of a creative outlet since my creative days have seen their day. That is why.
the job you're meant to do
I’m trying not to get too caught up in that phrase. I have played out in my head several career paths and I still am not quite sure where I fit in. I felt pretty sure before college it was architecture, then in college it was interior design and now out of college it’s nonprofit work…(trust me, there were several more majors in there before I stuck with one). We got to enjoy Ira...
